A total of 61 Beaver Scouts and Cub Scouts gathered at St Andrew’s Church on Friday to receive their certificates in recognition of achieving the Chief Scout’s Bronze and Silver Awards.
The Chief Scout’s Bronze Award is the highest award available to Beaver Scouts. It is gained by a Beaver who completes each of the Global, Promise, Creative, Community, Outdoor and Fitness Challenges.
The Chief Scout’s Silver Award is the highest award available to Cub Scouts. It is gained by a Cub who completes each of the Global, Promise, Creative, Community, Outdoor and Fitness Challenges.
The awards were presented to the youth members by District Commission Eddy Hills and Crawley Mayor Chris Cheshire, assisted by the Deputy District Commissions for Beavers, Helen Ives, and Cubs, Craig Edwards.
Chris Cheshire spoke of how proud she was of all the young people and the work they had done to gain these awards. She also praised and thanks the voluntary leaders who had given up their time to help these and all the young people in the Scout Movement. He was very please that scouting is active within Crawley and was impressed with the development of the programme that Scouting if following.
Also at the evening a number of adult awards were presented including two Awards for merit to Sheila Jones and Peter Raine.
The Award for Merit is given for outstanding service of not less than 12 years and 10 years exceptionally. It implies keen, conscientious, imaginative and dedicated service over a sustained period.
