Across Crawley District, local Scout groups took part in Remembrance Sunday commemorations, uniting communities in honouring those who gave their lives for peace.
Scouts were present at the war memorials in Crawley’s three original villages, as well as in Balcombe and Slaugham, symbolising the breadth of local participation. At St Mary’s Church in Balcombe, the 1st Balcombe Scout Group joined the village community for a special service. Meanwhile, 1st Handcross Scout Group, including its new Scout Troop, paraded at St Mary’s Church, Slaugham, gathering with the parish for a time of reflection and remembrance.
Members of the 4th Worth Scout Group attended Worth Church, with more than 50 Scout members involved. The group contributed readings, prayers, led the roll of honour, and laid wreaths alongside local councillors and church wardens.
At St John’s Church, Crawley, Scouts from 1st Langley Green and 5th Crawley joined the parade, observed a solemn silence, and laid wreaths in remembrance.
The 2nd Ifield Scout Group filled Ifield Church with members and families for a youth-led service, including readings and prayers by young people. They then joined the Ifield community at the war memorial for two minutes of silence.
6th Crawley Scout Group walked from their HQ to St Alban’s Church in Gossops Green to attend the Remembrance Sunday service, and 7th Crawley Scout Group joined St Andrew’s Church in Furnace Green to pay tribute to those who have gone before us in the pursuit of peace.
From the youngest Squirrels to the oldest adult members, Scouts across Crawley District came together for a wonderful day of remembrance, honouring the sacrifices of previous generations and embracing the responsibility to keep their memory alive.
