Chief Scout Bear Grylls Recognised Three Crawley District Scouts As Scouting’s Top Achievers

Three Crawley District Scouts, Jamie Keeley, Sam Lashwood and Ania Jasko were honoured by international adventurer and Chief Scout Bear Grylls at Windsor Castle for gaining their Queen’s Scouts Awards on Sunday 24th April 2016. Bear was joined by Prince Michael of Kent, GCVO. The Queen’s Scout Award is the highest honour in Scouting and is awarded for outstanding personal achievement. This honour is achieved by young people aged between 16 and 25 who have completed a range of challenges, which includes service to their community, completing an expedition in wild country, undertaking a five-day residential project in an unfamiliar environment and learning a new skill or developing an existing talent.

Queen’s Scouts Honoured

On Thursday 14th April, Irene Orford, County Commissioner for Scouts in West Sussex, awarded two members of Drake Explorer Scouts in Ifield their Queen’s Scouts. Ania Jasko and Sam Lashwood, both who are 17 years old and have been members of 2nd Ifield (St Margaret’s) Scout Group since the age of six, progressing through Beaver Scouts, Cub Scouts, Scouts and are now Explorer Scouts. The Queen’s Scout Award is the highest award for young people in the scouts and to achieve this they will have already achieved their Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award.

Queens 90th Birthday

On Thursday 21st April, about 30 young people and leaders from Groups and Sections across  Crawley Scouts celebrated the Queens 90th Birthday at Tilgate Park. The beacon was lit by the Mayor Cllr Chris Cheshire. A couple of photos of the event are shown below.

2nd Ifield Scout Gang Show

The show at Ifield Barn Arts Centre ran from Thursday to Saturday last week, with over 100 Beaver Scouts, Cub Scouts, Scouts, Explorer Scouts, Scout Network and adult leaders and supporters. All performances were sold out. The show was a medley of plays, songs and dances performed by each of the sections of the Group and large musical numbers with all members of the gang on the stage.

Monopoly Run 2016 – Explorers

The London Monopoly Run is an event open to all Explorers, Networks, Senior Section Girlguiding and their leaders. The 2016 event was held on Saturday 2nd April 2016 together with over 900 participants racing around London seeing the sites and earning £pounds to win some fantastic prizes. Participants enjoy a fun day in the capital competing in teams of 4-7 travelling via train, bus and foot visiting famous and specially selected monopoly locations. Nobody knows the locations until the day which adds to the excitement and anticipation!

West Sussex Youth Forum

On Sunday 3rd April, West Sussex Scouts are holding a free activity event for all 14 – 25 year old members to help shape Scouting in West Sussex and launch the new County Youth Forum. The day will involve a number of activities including archery, shooting, backwoods cooking and team challenges; and your chance to have your voice heard on the issues that matter to you in Scouting. Winter Camp – Gilwell Park

7 explorers and 3 leaders attended Gilwell Wintercamp Friday 8th January to 10th January in all it’s mud and glory. Along with several thousand others! At Wintercamp 2016 they were able to try a huge number of activities including miniature tank driving, a giant swing, shooting, archery, crafts, quad bikes, go karts, laser tag and a disco, camp fire and cinema.
