5th Crawley Maidenbower Beavers Celebrate Mother’s Day with a Heart Warming Evening of Crafting, Cuppas and Smiles

This week, our Beavers marked Mother’s Day with a very special session, inviting their mums—or a special person in their life—to join in the fun. It was a wholesome evening filled with creativity, laughter and some touching first-time moments for both Beavers and their guests.

The Beavers split into different groups and moved around different activities. One group started making beautiful suncatchers together with their guest. The room was soon filled with colour and sparkle as everyone got stuck in, enjoying the calm and creativity the craft offered. One guest even shared, “I found the sun catchers really relaxing, might go to Hobbycraft at the weekend!”

Another group had the Beavers creating handprint cards, a sweet and personal keepsake for their mums or special person to take home. With paint-covered hands and big smiles, the Beavers proudly presented their cards, each one unique and made with love. But perhaps the most touching part of the evening? The Beavers had the opportunity to make their guest a cup of tea or coffee—and for many, it was the very first time! These simple acts of kindness left a big impression:

“Thank you for a lovely evening. I enjoyed my first ever cup of coffee from my son.”

“My son says he is making me another cup of tea at the weekend!”

“I’ve told my son he can make me a cup of tea every morning now—what could possibly go wrong lol!”

There was a lot of laughter, a few cake crumbs, and plenty of pride from the Beavers as they showed off their thoughtful creations and budding tea/coffee-making skills. As one guest said, “Was great fun, love seeing how my son was concentrating so hard, such a lovely thing to do and put on.”

We were also delighted to welcome a few grandparents and other special guests, making the evening even more inclusive and meaningful. “Thank you for hosting my son’s Grandma—they both had a great evening.”

Feedback from the night was overwhelmingly positive, with guests sharing how much they appreciated the effort and love that went into the session:

“Lovely evening, thank you so much for arranging it.”

“Really nice time 🙂 thanks all of you.”

“It was really lovely tonight, thank you. My first ever cup of tea made for me by my son.”

A huge thank you to all the Beavers for their enthusiasm, kindness, and creativity—and to our leaders and volunteers who made it all happen. Moments like these are what Scouting is all about: building skills, making memories, and celebrating the people who matter most.

Happy Mother’s Day from all of us!
