Congratulations to Katie, Courtney and Robert who have recently completed their Explorer Belt.
The Explorer Belt is a challenge of a lifetime. It’s a chance to take part in a ten day expedition that brings you a real understanding of a different country, its culture and way of life.
I alongside 2 other network members went to Croatia for our explorer belt, which is an award which we travel in a foreign country for 10 days learning about culture and a topic of our choice. Our main topic was covering the way tourism changes, as we moved from place to place. We started in Zagreb and moved to Pula, then covered the island Cres and Kirk and ended in a Rijeka. It was an amazing experience and we covered all our main and mini projects (set by Allen Heath), we learnt a lot about the local culture along with the way of life in Croatia. We also experienced the lack of buses against what was publicised and struggled to find fuel for the MSR – so we ate out a lot! We fundraised for this trip over 12 months including Santas Grotto at Christmas and this trip counts towards our Kings Scout Award. The highest award possible as an Explorer Scout.
