Explorer Belt

Six members of Crawley Scout Network were presented with their Explorer Belt by Robert Sawyer (West Sussex County Commissioner). This is the first Explorer Belt carried out by a group from the County since 2011 when another Crawley Network team completed it.

The team travelled around the Netherlands by bike and canoe, meeting locals and finding about local culture last summer. A full report was presented in December using videos from their trip. Following this their received their certificate and belts on 15 April (The delay on both the team’s presentation and receiving the belt is due to some Network members studying away).

The County commission was also supported by Matt Pike (Deputy County Commissioner), Mike Priest (County Youth Commissioner) and Gerald Telfer (Assistant County Commissioner (International))

The full report of their trip can be found on the Network news

The scout website states: “The Explorer Belt is a challenge of a lifetime. It is a chance to take part in a ten day expedition that brings you a real understanding of a different country, its culture and way of life. You will develop this understanding by travelling through your chosen country, working as part of a small team to complete a series of projects and most importantly by meeting local people. It is an experience and an achievement that you will remember for the rest of your life.” further details of the Explorer Belt can be found here
