Drake Explorer Scouts Log Cabin Camp 2016

Drake Explorer Scout Unit, based in Ifield, spent the weekend at their annual log cabin camp. This year the unit visit Broadstone Warren Scout Campsite. Friday night was spent getting to know the site and the building before the formal start of the weekend. The evening was spent with the members reviewing their D of E awards and planning their adventures for the forthcoming year.

Saturday saw the unit spend time on the archery range, competing against each other and then teams. As the sun was about to set on a very cold evening the Explorers were drop off in Ashdown forest in three different teams and were given a route to hike back to the campsite, some progressed better than others but all returned, they all found it a useful training hike. In the evening they were entertained by some of the Explorers who had planned, purchased and then cooked an intentional  meal as part of their Chief Scout Awards.

Sunday morning the Unit woke up to a campsite covered with snow. The morning was spent inside learning the skill of fencing, a new skill for them all. What else would you expect of Explorer Scouts when there is snow about, but they also had a impromptu snowball fight, with a number of the lads deciding to spice it up with them going topless!!!

Another great weekend away for the Unit which everyone enjoyed.
