On Friday 23rd September, 14 Explorers arrived at K2 Crawley ready for an action packed weekend of climbing, canoeing and walking in Symonds Yat. After a 4 hour minibus drive, we arrived at Biblins Youth Campsite where we quickly set to unpacking the minibus and setting up the tents before a light supper of hot dogs and bed.
On Saturday, we then started the day with breakfast before setting off in two groups for the activities. One group set off to climb on the natural crags locally whilst the other group enjoyed some canoeing on the River Wye. Sam Lashwood, one of the Canoe Instructors said:
“Over the camp, the explorers had a chance to try canoeing on a moving river, something none of them had done before. They all seemed to enjoy it greatly. The weather was very good too, which meant the explorers didn’t mind going in the water! Many of them developed their skills greatly, and we hope to see them paddling in the future.”
The groups then switched after Lunch and had a go at the other activity. In the evening, we then enjoyed Dinner before heading to the onsite seating barn as it had started to rain! On Sunday, after breakfast the groups were then driven to two drop off locations to walk back to the campsite before packing up site and repacking the minibus ready for the 4 hour drive home.
All of the Explorers were able to partake in these activities; which many had not had the chance to experience in the past and were able to develop new skills which will help them on future expeditions. Some photos and videos of the camp are available below. Go ahead and see if you can spot yourself!
