Message from Eddy Hills

Nearly 4 weeks has now passed since handing over the reigns as DC to Wendy Keeley and its flown by.

Firstly thank you to all Groups for your generosity of the card and gifts that were given to me at the AGM – I have some ideas on what I would like to spend the vouchers on that will be a lasting memento of my time as DC. I am grateful to all who attended the AGM and shared their best wishes. Shortly after the AGM Bev and I took a week away in Spain to relax and it was nice knowing that I was unlikely to receive any surprise calls concerning Scouts during my time away this time! I start a new work contract this week so life is returning to normal.

As many of you know I am going to continue to be around helping at 5th Crawley as Acting GSL, also supporting the Nights Away Advisor role whilst Graham Mitchell’s successor’s is found and as a member with Active Support at Stanford. I also start a new role in Scouting shortly with the South East Region involved in Growth.

Bev spent some time compiling a record of all significant events over the past 8 years especially if they made the press and this are available for all to see in a series of albums. We’d be happy to share them and will once we have finished with them later this year pass them on to the District for their archives. Please let me know whether you’d like to borrow them for an AGM or some other event.

I thoroughly enjoyed my time as DC and the great times definitely outweighed the more challenging times. I had a great deal of help and support from members of the District throughout and am grateful to all and it gives me tremendous pride to say that as a team we made a difference.

I wish Wendy every success in her role as DC going forward and encourage everyone to provide her the support needed to fulfil the task and responsibilities of the role and in doing so continue the journey Crawley Scouting will make into the future.
