Award Transition Guidance 2015

The requirements for the Chief Scout Awards have been updated. Beavers, Cubs and Scouts will be able to complete the updated requirements from January 2015. There will be a transition period from January to September 2015 where young people who have started the Awards can complete them using the current requirements, providing they finish by September 2015. Young people who start their Chief Scout Awards after January 2015 should follow the new requirements in their entirety. Young people who have started the Awards using the current requirements but will not finish it by September 2015 should follow these transition guidelines.

This transition advice is designed to make the transition from the old requirements to the new ones as smooth as possible for young people and ensure they are not penalised by the updates, by having to complete requirements twice. Equally it is important that they experience the level of challenge that the new requirements offer, particularly in terms of the greater emphasis on outdoor and adventure in the programme.

Beavers

The table below shows how the current Challenge Awards broadly translates into the new Challenge Awards which make up the requirements for the Chief Scout Bronze Award.

Beavers will need to complete:

  • 4 Activity Badges or Staged Activity badges of your choice
  • Four other Challenge Awards (these can be a mixture of the current and new awards). They should cover all four of the areas covered by the new Challenge Awards (My World, My Skills, My Outdoors and My Adventure)

Cubs
