On 9th July, 3 members of Crawley Scout Network Unit presented to an audience of Explorers, Network, leaders and parents what they had done for the 4 top awards that are available for Network members.
First of all Courtney, Katie and Robert presented about their experience on completing the Explorer Belt in Croatia in May. The main project was regarding how tourism changes across the country. The Explorer Belt is a challenge of a lifetime. It’s a chance to take part in a ten day expedition that brings you a real understanding of a different country, its culture and way of life.
Next Courtney showed what she had done to complete the Scouts of the World Award (SOWA). Scouts of the World Award (SOWA) is a Scout Network only award that gives Scout Network members the chance to undertake a project of their choice within the themes of Peace, Environment and Sustainability and take action on their chosen issue. This involves a Discovery Weekend, followed by an 80 hour project, and then a report back (which was completed in April). This Award has been completed by less than 80 Network members in the UK since 2005.
Finally Katie told us how she had completed the DofE Gold Award and then how she completed her Kings Scout Award. (The King’s Scout Award is the top achievement for Explorer Scouts and Scout Network members and comprises of a variety of activities to complete.)
It was such a great evening to see the youth members talk all about these recent achievements all in one evening. Well Done to the three of you!
