Congratulations to 4 Cubs from 1st Southgate who have recently achieved their Chief Scout Silver Award. The Chief Scout’s Silver Award is the highest award which a member in the Cub Scout Section can achieve. Having gained this award, the young people then move on to the Scout Section and carry the badge forward to wear on their Scout uniform. To achieve the award, the members must complete a number of requirements.
Cub Scouting started in 1916 therefore this year will be our centenary and in celebration, Crawley District Cubs have arranged a day trip for up to 300 cubs and leaders to the Bluebell Railway on Saturday 18th June 2016. On Thursday 21st April, about 30 young people and leaders from Groups and Sections across Crawley Scouts celebrated the Queens 90th Birthday at Tilgate Park. The beacon was lit by the Mayor Cllr Chris Cheshire. A couple of photos of the event are shown below.
The show at Ifield Barn Arts Centre ran from Thursday to Saturday last week, with over 100 Beaver Scouts, Cub Scouts, Scouts, Explorer Scouts, Scout Network and adult leaders and supporters. All performances were sold out. The show was a medley of plays, songs and dances performed by each of the sections of the Group and large musical numbers with all members of the gang on the stage.

On Saturday 16th January, 8 Cubs from 2nd Ifield and 1st Southgate along with 4 leaders attended the West Sussex Launch Event at Out of Bounds to celebrate 100 years of Cubs. During the action packed morning, they took part in numerous high rope activities including the Lightening Crack, Skyscraper, Speed Climbing, Checkerplate, Leap of Faith and Vertical Drop Slides. After an action packed morning, they settled down to eat lunch before singing happy birthday to Cubs around a Cubs100 cake.
