Three Bridges Scout Group celebrate 60th anniversary

5th Crawley Scout Group, which is based in Gales Place in Three Bridges, has this year been celebrating its 60th anniversary with a number of special events.

Saturday 22nd September saw leaders old and new, VIPs, and young people from across the sections of the Group gather for their main celebration event, held at the Gatwick Aviation Museum. Despite the dreadful weather on the day, attendees enjoyed an indoor picnic, games and a number of activities which enabled the younger members to gain Stage 1 of the Air Activities Badge.

Group Scout Leader, Eddy Hills, spoke to the assembled attendees and recounted the Group’s history and key milestones. His speech made mention of the recent formation of satellite units in Maidenbower and the creation of a Maidenbower Beaver Colony in 2015, and subsequently, a Maidenbower Cub Pack in September 2018.

Mr Hills said: “We’ve an amazing group of young people who are participating in a wide range of activities with exciting programmes. It’s a joy to see how they develop. Our leaders always put their members first and make such a difference – all on a voluntary basis. The Group has nearly trebled in size in recent years, and I’m really grateful to everyone who has helped us to reach this 60th birthday milestone”.

Local MP, Henry Smith, joined the celebration and said: “It’s fantastic to see the enthusiasm of the young people here celebrating this anniversary. The support given by volunteers is absolutely key and enables young people in the Scouting movement, and 5th Crawley in particular, to flourish and gain valuable and important life skills. I’m delighted to be here to celebrate your 60th anniversary with you”.
