Crawley District has eleven Scout groups, ten within the town and one in Balcombe, a local village 4 miles South East of Crawley. All Groups offer Scouting to young people from the age of 6 through to 14 across three sections; Beavers (6-8 years of age), Cubs (8 to 10.5) and Scouts (10.5 to 14). In addition, the District has six Explorer Scout units providing Scouting for 14 to 18 year olds and these work closely with the local Groups. The District also has a Network Scout unit (18 to 25) giving older members the opportunity to continue in Scouting without taking on the responsibility of being a leader and offering support to help them work towards their Queens Scout Award. It also offers them social opportunities as well as supporting Scouting at the many District events. Additionally, our Campsite at Pease Pottage benefits from ongoing support from the Stanford Scout Active Support Section which is a group of adults interested in creating an environment second to none for camping and outdoor experiences.
Over recent years Scouting in the District has increased steadily and the popularity of Scouting continues to grow. Many Groups hold a waiting list for young people under the age of 6, waiting to become a Beaver Scout. If your son or daughter would like to become a Beaver, it is recommended that you place their names on a waiting list as soon as they become 5 years of age.
Whatever your age there will always be a welcome in Scouting for you in Crawley District. To find out more please contact us for Youth Membership or Volunteer Opportunities / Vacancies, the individual Groups listed on this website, or any of the District Team.
