New District Leader Appointments

Louise Baker has been appointed ADC Beavers with Helen stepping down Lou has taken this role and has started visiting colonies and coming up with exciting opportunities to support leaders within the District.

I first became a helper at Beavers when my eldest son now 16 was a member and his leaders decided to move on and the group were threatening to close.  I agreed to become a leader and it all started from there! I stayed with 5th Crawley for a number of years until I moved away to Burgess Hill to be near my family, a couple of months later I was contacted by the then district team to see if I would be willing to help the ADC beaver leader out and of course I agreed, well now it’s my turn to be the ADC beaver leader and although I have very big boots to fill it’s a role I’m really looking forward to filling.

Outside of scouting I have three children who I love spending time with. I enjoy gardening, crafts and catching up with friends and family.

Ken Berreen has been appointed District Assistant Commissioner for Activities with his prime focus being supporting shooting within Crawley District.  We have excellent facilities for youth members to experience this activity at 2nd Ifield and 4th Worth and hopefully 1st Southgate will also soon be starting shooting sessions.  Many members from Crawley have been asked to join the National Shooting Squad.

I started my scouting at 1st Northgate back in 1969 as a cub and then scout.  I rejoined the scouting movement in the early 1990s  a scout leader in East Grinstead  district. I was the scout Leader at West Hoathly for around 6 years.

When my daughter joined cubs at 2nd Ifield , she tried shooting and lots has happened since then.  I helped out at shooting and was offered the chance to train as a range officer and shooting instructor. I am now a prone, kneeling, and standing instructor along with being a range officer live fire .22 and air shooting. I have recently trained as a club coach in shooting and am now completing my assessments.

A thankyou to Helen Ives. I would like to thank Helen Ives for all that she did as ADC Beavers in Crawley for the nearly 8 years she was in post.  During this time she has supported many leaders and colonies and ensured Beavers have had a wonderful Scouting experience.  She is continuing to support the Maidenbower Beavers who are part of 5th Crawley while they look to recruit new leaders.  In addition to this she is Group Scout Leader at Northgate and I am sure she will welcome the opportunity to get back to focusing on her Group role.
